Abstract:

The high-quality development of coastal port cities is an important component of high-quality development, and it also urgently needs to inject new development momentum. Used panel data from China's five major coastal port city clusters from 2003 to 2022 and combined with models such as Markov chain, exploratory spatial data analysis and Dagum Gini coefficient to explore the spatio-temporal evolution of their high-quality development and identified the driving factors of high-quality development by using a spatiotemporal geographically weighted regression model. The results show that: ① The overall level of high-quality development is gradually increasing, the Southeast coastal area, Yangtze River Delta and Pearl River Delta regions are relatively leading, and there is a high possibility for coastal port cities to maintain their current development levels in the future; ② The overall high-quality development shows a significant positive spatial correlation. The main reason for spatial imbalance is regional differences and overlapping between regions; ③ There is significant spatiotemporal heterogeneity among the driving factors, with the level of information technology, population size, fiscal dependence, economic concentration, modernization of industrial structure and port construction scale having a promoting effect, while the total freight volume has a constraining effect.
