The Impacts of the Social Network on China Identity of the Korean Chinese in South Korea
    2016, (3): 12-20.
    Abstract ( )   PDF (472KB) ( )
Many studies show that national identity changes when people enter another country. It is because they are involved in new social situations. This is a foregone conclusion. What people want to know is what impact national identity and what are the mechanisms that contribute to changing identities. One’s national identity is influenced by many factors. To understand this complex issue, scholars need to investigate the mechanism behind those changes and deconstructing it. The Korean Chinese in South Korea are interviewed in this study. A general analytical framework was designed for this case study. It considers geographical characteristics of social networks as independent variables and the home country identity as the dependent variable. The major objective is to investigate changes in a Chinese identity to a Korean Chinese identity in South Korea. We conclude that the Korean Chinese in South Korea are gradually tightening their economic relationships and ties with China. The networks of their family and kinship has still include both China and South Korea, as they have since the early of 1990’s when the first tide of Chinese entered South Korea. The international influence of China improved when more Korean Chinese began to also enter other countries in the past decades. All of these developments enhance the Chinese identity of the Korean Chinese in South Korea. A geographical perspective aids in analyzing the changing national identity. The identity of the immigration country and emigration country is to be compared in the future.

From Software Outsourcing to R&D Service: A Case Study of Bangalore
    2016, (3): 21-29.
    Abstract ( )   PDF (469KB) ( )
Since 2000, India’s outsourcing industry is moving from a low technology service supplier to a high technology R&D Service supplier. Which factor results in the success for the upgrading of India’s outsourcing industry becomes an important issue we need to study. Bangalore is the birthplace of Indian software exports, and also becomes more and more professional in R&D Service. Because of that, this paper takes Bangalore as a case study, trying to sum up the four key factors for the rising of India’s R&D service industry by reviewing the developing process of Bangalore’s R&D Service Industry based on the theory of global value chain as follows: the low-cost supply of high quality personnel, the changes of global R&D strategy of multinationals, the improvement of local research and management capacity and the full use of overseas personal network.

Spatial Pattern Evolution of Annual Average PM2.5 Concentration in Africa, 2001-2010
    2016, (3): 30-39.
    Abstract ( )   PDF (590KB) ( )
Based on NASA’s global annual average PM2.5 grids, by vectoring the administrative boundaries of African countries, calculating the average concentration of atmospheric PM2.5 of all countries and building the spatial database, using gravity model, ESDA model and GIS spatial statistical analysis method, we explore the space-time pattern evolution of the atmospheric PM2.5 pollution concentration of 52 main African countries from 2001 to 2010. According to their time series features, we classify them into 8 types. The results show that: (1) The concentration of atmospheric PM2.5 pollution in Africa generally shows the spatial characteristics of "middle high, north and south low; west high, east low" during 2001 to 2010. High concentration areas such as Nigeria, Congo and Cameroon, are mainly concentrated in the vicinity of the Gulf of Guinea in West Africa, and low concentration areas are widely distributed in North Africa, Southern Africa and coastal areas or islands of Southeast Africa. (2) Using spatial autocorrelation analysis method based on ESDA Model, we find that "High-High" type areas of PM2.5 concentrations are mainly distributed in the major countries near Gulf of Guinea, and that "Low-Low" type areas of PM2.5 concentrations are concentrated in the countries of Southeast Africa such as South Africa, Mozambique and Madagascar. (3) The average annual PM2.5 concentrations in Africa decreased obviously from 2001 to 2010. Average annual PM2.5 pollution concentrations of 32 counties (accounted for 61.54% of total) in 2010 were lower than in 2001. (4) Due to theirs high population density and dependence on the oil industry, countries near Gulf of Guinea are the areas with the highest PM2.5 concentration in Africa. On the contrary, the average PM2.5 concentrations of Southeast Africa is the lowest, thanks to their natural environment and low-pollution pillar industries.

Analysis of the Geopolitical Situation of the Grand Northern Onshore China
    2016, (3): 59-68.
    Abstract ( )   PDF (632KB) ( )
The domestic studies on China's geopolitics in recent years can be roughly divided into two categories: the one focuses on international politics to study China's outward-geopolitical situation, the other is rooted in military geography to study China's inward-geopolitical situation. According to the second approach and based on the historical and geographical perspective of traditional struggles among land powers, that the geopolitical situation of the grand northern onshore China can be divided into five parts—a core region, an upstream belt, four corridor belts, seven significant regions and two pivot regions, Among them, the Nanyang-Jianghan significant region and the Shanxi pivot region play a vital role in the whole China’s geopolitical situation, in additions, there are many important relations between the upstream belt, the Northeast significant region, the Xinjinag significant region and China’ outward-geopolitical situation.

    2016, (3): 151-161.
    Abstract ( )   PDF (872KB) ( )
With the “space turn” in social studies and the “cultural turn” in geography, urban consumption space has become a hot spot in the research of urban social and cultural geography; But in the process of Globalization, the localization is also rising quietly, the Makye Ame restaurant is the result of localization, and since its opening, it has been favored by Chinese and foreign tourists,it has formed a unique phenomenon of Makye Ame. What’s more, The previous studies are concerned about the global urban space. Based on this background, this paper focus on the localization space—Makye Ame restaurant form the operator’s space construction and the perception of tourists, two questions are discussed: how does the Makye Ame restaurant be constructed? how tourists perceive and interpret it ? This article mainly uses the qualitative research method. Firstly, the text and pictures about Makye Ame was collected through the Internet, then we analyzed these words and pictures based on the field survey to answer the first question we proposed. Secondly, we investigated 23 customers in the Makye Ame restaurant by using the sensory ethnography, the content analysis method was used to analyze the data of the interview. The result shows, the operators use various landscape symbols and celebrity anecdotes to construct and reconstruct the space to make it become a place full of exotic and stories. The consumption space is no longer pure space, it becomes the place full of stories. While the tourists obtained a profound consumption experience through the perception of the entity space and the celebrity anecdotes, and the perception of the restaurant’s functional value is poor, this shows that the tourism consumption also has a tendency of symbol consumption.
