Geo-economics was advanced by researchers of Europe and America in 1990s, and then it was speeded over the academics. But there were some different views towards its concept and nature, which has affected the development of the theory. This paper discriminate the nature and connotation of features from the practice of Europe and America of geo-economics background, theoretical origin, the development of schools and so on by a view of embryology. The main research conclusions as follows :(1) Geo-economics of Europe and America has profound theoretic origin. The re-occurrence of geo-economical cooperation around the world is one vital resource and theoretical background of the birth of Geo-economics. Meanwhile, the expansion of several other similar or related economic theories brings about its birth academically and geo-politics is its direct academic resource. (2)As space spread of the geo-economic theory, there are formed a multicentre centers of distinctive theory school such as the USA, Italy and Russia. The interaction among theories, views, and academic schools of different sub-subjects has made Geo-economics rather sophisticated; (3) Although geo-economics has formed its own unique theoretical characteristics different from geo-politics, it is still at the very early stage of its development with obscure research border, yet-to-be-build theoretical foundation and imperfect theoretical system.

    2014, (01): 73-83.
    Abstract ( )   PDF (703KB) ( )
Regional spatial interactions are research focus of regional science, economic geography. This articles sort out domestic and abroad spatial interaction theory, measurement model and research contents, the results show that the measurement of spatial interaction models are mainly gravity model and its derivative models, urban flow model, geo-economic relationship model, the classical gravity model application in practice to constantly adjust and deepen, and the relative model for the city flow model and geo-economic model is less relevant applied research. An empirical study of spatial interaction can be summarized as characteristics of regional linkages, regional spatial structure, the regional geo-economic relations research, applied research on microscopic fields. From the research point of view, research on regional ties and regional spatial structure characteristics are much more than others, and for regional geo-economic relations needs to be strengthened discussed, especially the indicators need more comprehensive measure. Regional spatial interaction has two-dimensional characteristics, studies have linked more to the horizontal dimension, as the global network of cities increasingly emerge, through a variety attribute data to explore the links of vertical dimension will be an important direction, the cities at different scales or inter-regional network structure, function and relationship research may become the focus of attention.

Overseas listing of Chinese firms on Singapore Stock Exchange: the ebb and flow
    2014, (01): 140-150.
    Abstract ( )   PDF (756KB) ( )
Location choice of firms’ overseas listing is a major concern of financial geography. There are a large number of Chinese firms choose to list on overseas stock exchanges in which Singapore is one of the most important listing locations. But Singapore’s appeal to Chinese firms has declined greatly in recent years. This paper firstly introduces the overall pattern of Chinese firms which list on Singapore Stock Exchange (SGX) through presenting the structural changes in time, space and industry of Chinese listed firms. After that, it explores why Singapore become an important destination for overseas listings of Chinese firms as well as the reasons for the recent decline in the status. This paper argues that relying on low and flexible requirements for listing and the successful marketing strategies of SGX, the promotion of Singapore's local venture capital institutions, proximities in geography, culture, language and industry similarity between Singapore and China and follow-the-leader effect in the listing of firms in the same regional industrial clusters in china, Singapore has attracted numerous Chinese firms to list on SGX. These are the reasons why SGX has been one of the most important destinations for overseas listing of Chinese firms in a long period of time. However, the attractiveness of SGX to Chinese firms greatly decreased after 2007. We summarized three reasons for the decline. Firstly, the downturn of the capital markets which is caused by the global financial crisis. Secondly, the increased competition among the world's major stock exchanges also contributes to the decline. Thirdly and the most importantly, poor financing condition of the Chinese stocks on SGX severely reduced the enthusiasm of Chinese firms for listing on SGX. In the conclusion part, we point out that Singapore has lost the advantages it had before in attracting Chinese firms to list on SGX. Firms should be rational in the listing process. In addition, overseas listing has potential influences on the geographical pattern of global finance. So we propose that financial geography deserves more research attention in China.

Recognition of urban eco-tourism -- a case study of Shanghai
    2014, (01): 158-166.
    Abstract ( )   PDF (747KB) ( )
On the basis of summarizing and introducing urban connotation of eco-tourism and the related research at home and abroad, from the perspective of the major participants of the urban eco-tourism, Shanghai residents are chosen as the object of a questionnaire study. The results show that tourism awareness and consumer behavior of Shanghai residents are relatively mature and reflect the clear preference for the natural ecology landscape and recreational space. Approximately 76% of the respondents recognized eco-tourism in the city. In different eco-tourism activities and their recognition it is found that consumptiveness is inversely proportional to the recognition of the activities, which is in line with the basic principles of eco-tourism. Although 70.94% are willing to assume ecological responsibility in the tourism process, among them 51.92% take it as the premise that their economic utility is not affected. So the perception and attitude of Shanghai residents in environmental awareness and ecological responsibility remain to be improved.
